Our First Camping Trip

Hi there Blog World!

I know that I have been a TERRIBLE blogger, but look...I at least have a photo now!  I think that is a step in the right direction.

I have been inspired to get back on my blog and start documenting this crazy thing called marriage thanks to a friend who gave me a pep talk about how even though I am not traveling the world like SOME of my newly married friends (Hi Jared and Sophie!) I still have a lot of fun stories and moments to share.

Let's start with this weekend.  It was a fun filled weekend with movies, exercise, and camping!  On Friday night Calen and I had a dinner date at Bronx Pizza!  If you haven't been there, you NEED to visit!  It is my favorite New York style pizza in San Diego.  After dinner we headed to Fashion Valley to see a movie and grab some ice cream with Spencer.  We saw Megamind which was cute, but not great--BUT it was fun hanging out with Spence.

Then, on Saturday, you will never believe it, but I actually asked Calen if I could work out with him...I know, I have lost my mind.  I thought that it would be a good idea for me to ride my new beach cruiser (which Calen gave me as a wedding gift) along side Calen as he ran.  Calen has always wanted me to go for a run with him, so I figured this would be awesome...and it was for the first 15 minutes!  We parked over on PLNU's campus and road/ran through the neighborhoods...Has anyone ever realized how hilly the Point Loma neighborhoods are!!!  They look easy, but seriously, I was having a HARD time!  I worked my butt off to keep up with my buff, well trimmed husband!  In the end, the final hill worked me over and we ended up walking my bike back to the car together :-)  Next time we are going to try Mission Beach or Coronado...someplace flat!

Now, the BIG event of the weekend!  CAMPING!!!  Calen and I got all of this great camping gear from my parents for our wedding and we decided that we needed to use it before it got too cold, so we decided to go camping in San Onofre for a night.  We headed out to Walmart to pick up some extra camping gear and food on the way and off we went.  When we got to our site it was about 4:30pm and so we knew we needed to get our tent up quickly...We timed ourselves and got it all set up in 20 minutes!  We were very proud :-)  After we were all settled into our camp site, we drove over to Surf Beach and took a walk and watched the beautiful sunset, it was perfect.  After our little adventure, we headed "home" and started up the fire!  We had chili dogs for dinner and played card games(where I beat Calen just about EVERY time) for hours.  It was such a strange feeling not being surrounded by a group of friends or family, but it was nice to just be just us two for a few hours.

When it came time for bed, we snuggled into our multi-layered blanketed bed which I thought FOR SURE would be enough to keep us warm through the night...WRONG!  I FROZE to death, but of course my husband was asleep before he could even know it was cold outside.  I thought that cuddling with my husband in our joined together sleeping bags would be a great idea...NOPE!!  TOO COLD!  We are going to have to try something different next time so I can actually feel my toes in the morning!

When the sun woke us up, Calen built up a nice fire and we made the most gourmet camping breakfast I have ever had with our new Coleman camping gear!  Well, its not that gourmet, but I was impressed with us!  We fried up some bacon over the fire and then grilled up some cinnamon raisin toast to go with it.  We also had Cold Stone brand hot chocolate!  I highly recommend it!  As Calen said "It's like drinking a chocolate bar!"  It was delish and so fun to cook breakfast together over the campfire.

It was a short a sweet trip as we headed home soon after breakfast to be at church by 10:30am, but we loved every minute of it...except the freezing cold minutes.  Now we are ready to take on the camping world with some friends...Who is in for the next adventure!

We have a lot coming up in these next few weeks so stay tuned for all the excitement of Homecoming, James and Tiana's wedding, Kat and Jordan's wedding, Thanksgiving, and MUCH more...Hopefully some sleepwalking stories as well!

Love you all!

Another Day Without Pictures...

So the reason I haven't been as good of a blogger as I hoped I would be is because I have been wanting to put pictures up on the blog...well, here is another blog day and still no pictures...I promise pictures in the near future :-)

On another note, since I last blogged a lot has happened so I will put the exciting moments into bullet points:
-Calen and I bought a mattress and bedframe!
-I had the most beautiful bridal shower thrown for me and now our spair bedroom is over flowing with beautiful wonderful gifts.
-We have picked a rehearsal dinner location :-)  Get ready for some good grub!
-Calen has applied for grad school!!! He wont start until at the earliest this spring, but we are excited for this new part of our journey!  (I'm so proud of you honey!)
-Family Wagon is playing at the House of Blues on Friday night on the mainstage!  We are going to have a great time.
-I have successfully made a paper chain at work and I am counting down the days till the wedding...22...

This is where I will stop the bullet points and hit some of the more recent things happening.  Last night I surprised Calen with tickets to the John Mayer concert!  We had SUCH a good time :-)  I wanted to thank him for putting up with all of my craziness during this wedding planning time and it was just a perfect night.  But as we both agreed, every night is a good night that we get to spend together.

NOW, for the first wedding mishap so far...thank you to my dear friend Miss Emily Reeves for sharing this moment with me...After Emily successfully picked up her bridesmaid dress from the tailor, she was trying on her dress and noticed it was a bit snug but blamed it on how much she had just recently eaten...Later that night she went back to try it on again and guess what...THE ZIPPER BROKE!!!  HAHAHA!  That is my longest and best friend ladies and gentlemen!  But don't worry....it's not like Emily is fat!  Haha!  She took it back to the tailor and they fixed the zipper and poof! It magically fits again :-)  It's all good people.  I love you Em!  Thank you for that awesome story!

I am getting so anxious for everyone to be here!  All of my closest girlfriends will be together in one place in 16 days and I just cant bear it!  My dress is fitted, all of the major details are done, I am SOOO in love with my best friend....I think we are ready :-)

Tonight I get the honor of meeting my sisters little freshmen who live on her hall (for those of you who dont know, my sister is an RA in Nease Hall at PLNU.)  I am bringing pizza and cookies and just getting to know these sweet girls.  I can't wait!

Well, I think that is all for now...We have an exciting weekend/week coming up full of concerts, new churches, new friends, and a lot of other great stuff.  Hopefully there will be some pictures on here soon too so you can visualize all of these great moments :-)  Love you all!

Love,

Our New Blog!

Hello friends and family!

Calen and I are so excited to begin this new journey with you as we prepare to be married in 37 days!  Since I LOVE to write and journal I thought that this would be the perfect way to keep all of you across the country update on how the California girl and the Kansas farm boy are doing :-)

As most of you already know, I have started a new job working for Point Loma Nazarene Universities Graduate Student Financial Services office over in Mission Valley (about 15 minutes from the Point Loma campus)!  I am on week two of the job and right now things are pretty slow, but I am loving the people that I am working with and I am anticipating that things will start to pick up soon!  I am also in the final stages of planning our wedding!  At this point I am pretty calm and collected and just ready for the day to be here!  With just the small things left to do, I am ready to party and celebrate this exciting time for Calen and I.

Calen is currently still working for PLNU as well, except he is on the main campus :-( No lunch together for us.  He is enjoying his time gardening and learning more about plants every day...I cant wait for the day we have a garden out in front of our little house!  We will be the envy of all the neighborhood :-)  Thankfully Calen has a green thumb because I have successfully killed every single plant that has ever been given to me.  Calen's band Family Wagon is also doing really well right now!  About a month ago they played a big show here in San Diego at the Casbah and they are playing the main stage at the House of Blues in San Diego coming up at the end of August!  Look at him go!  Calen is currently living in our soon to be home and soaking up all of the bachelor time his has with his good friend Spencer.  It is so fun to visit the boys and know that soon it will be my home too.

Hopefully I will be able to keep this blog updated with pictures and stories of our life as we get ready for the wedding, go on our honeymoon, and start nesting in our apartment.  You know with Calen and I there are bound to be some good stories of sleep walking and ungraceful falls :-)  We love you and cant wait to start our married story.

Love, K
