Our First Camping Trip

Hi there Blog World!

I know that I have been a TERRIBLE blogger, but look...I at least have a photo now!  I think that is a step in the right direction.

I have been inspired to get back on my blog and start documenting this crazy thing called marriage thanks to a friend who gave me a pep talk about how even though I am not traveling the world like SOME of my newly married friends (Hi Jared and Sophie!) I still have a lot of fun stories and moments to share.

Let's start with this weekend.  It was a fun filled weekend with movies, exercise, and camping!  On Friday night Calen and I had a dinner date at Bronx Pizza!  If you haven't been there, you NEED to visit!  It is my favorite New York style pizza in San Diego.  After dinner we headed to Fashion Valley to see a movie and grab some ice cream with Spencer.  We saw Megamind which was cute, but not great--BUT it was fun hanging out with Spence.

Then, on Saturday, you will never believe it, but I actually asked Calen if I could work out with him...I know, I have lost my mind.  I thought that it would be a good idea for me to ride my new beach cruiser (which Calen gave me as a wedding gift) along side Calen as he ran.  Calen has always wanted me to go for a run with him, so I figured this would be awesome...and it was for the first 15 minutes!  We parked over on PLNU's campus and road/ran through the neighborhoods...Has anyone ever realized how hilly the Point Loma neighborhoods are!!!  They look easy, but seriously, I was having a HARD time!  I worked my butt off to keep up with my buff, well trimmed husband!  In the end, the final hill worked me over and we ended up walking my bike back to the car together :-)  Next time we are going to try Mission Beach or Coronado...someplace flat!

Now, the BIG event of the weekend!  CAMPING!!!  Calen and I got all of this great camping gear from my parents for our wedding and we decided that we needed to use it before it got too cold, so we decided to go camping in San Onofre for a night.  We headed out to Walmart to pick up some extra camping gear and food on the way and off we went.  When we got to our site it was about 4:30pm and so we knew we needed to get our tent up quickly...We timed ourselves and got it all set up in 20 minutes!  We were very proud :-)  After we were all settled into our camp site, we drove over to Surf Beach and took a walk and watched the beautiful sunset, it was perfect.  After our little adventure, we headed "home" and started up the fire!  We had chili dogs for dinner and played card games(where I beat Calen just about EVERY time) for hours.  It was such a strange feeling not being surrounded by a group of friends or family, but it was nice to just be just us two for a few hours.

When it came time for bed, we snuggled into our multi-layered blanketed bed which I thought FOR SURE would be enough to keep us warm through the night...WRONG!  I FROZE to death, but of course my husband was asleep before he could even know it was cold outside.  I thought that cuddling with my husband in our joined together sleeping bags would be a great idea...NOPE!!  TOO COLD!  We are going to have to try something different next time so I can actually feel my toes in the morning!

When the sun woke us up, Calen built up a nice fire and we made the most gourmet camping breakfast I have ever had with our new Coleman camping gear!  Well, its not that gourmet, but I was impressed with us!  We fried up some bacon over the fire and then grilled up some cinnamon raisin toast to go with it.  We also had Cold Stone brand hot chocolate!  I highly recommend it!  As Calen said "It's like drinking a chocolate bar!"  It was delish and so fun to cook breakfast together over the campfire.

It was a short a sweet trip as we headed home soon after breakfast to be at church by 10:30am, but we loved every minute of it...except the freezing cold minutes.  Now we are ready to take on the camping world with some friends...Who is in for the next adventure!

We have a lot coming up in these next few weeks so stay tuned for all the excitement of Homecoming, James and Tiana's wedding, Kat and Jordan's wedding, Thanksgiving, and MUCH more...Hopefully some sleepwalking stories as well!

Love you all!
